CONTEST RULES:

The contest will commence at 1 p.m. on Saturday March 31, with opening ceremonies and the lighting of the eternal fiddle flame – which is where we set fire to the fiddle owned by the loser of last year’s contest.

The Fire Ant Fiddle Contest is free, but only if you pre-register by sending an email to Fireant@crookedtune.net  You may register at the contest, but that will cost you $10 American dollars.

Three Divisions:  Small Fry is open to anyone 11 years old or younger; Junior is open for anyone 12-18;  Open division is … open to all, however, you must be a human being or at least within the same genus.

Contestants must play two tunes.  This is an Anything Goes event, which means you can play whatever you want in any way you want.  You may cross-tune for hill-billy tunes, you may use all the hokum bowing you can stand on a bluegrass number, you may fiddle Irish and drink whisky, you may play Mozart while standing on your head.  The use of explosives or pyro-technics is discouraged, but not strictly forbidden.   You may have as many accompanists as you feel necessary.

Judging: A panel of “experts” will judge contestants on three categories:

  • Rhythm and timing – Can you dance to it?  Can you rock to it? Can you tap your feet to it?
  • Intonation –  Are you making good sounds?  Are animals whining when you play?
  • Artistry – Do you have the special sauce on your tunes?  Is there gravy on your biscuits?

Fun must be had by everyone, including, but not limited to, contestants, spectators, judges, parents, grandparents, cheer leaders, professional scouts, security personnel, ect.  The following will not be tolerated and will be punished in some unpleasant way… fussing, fighting, biting, kicking, pouting, whining, crying (except tears of joy), taunting, and chewing with your mouth open.

Prizes, Prizes, Prizes will be awarded to the top three contestants in every division.
